Old Navy Return Policy: What To Know Before You Go

Shopping with your eyes can be a fun and expedited consumer experience, but if you get home and the luster has worn off your purchase, or it simply doesn’t fit, fear not for Old Navy allows you to return everything from impulse buys to badly received gifts. 

Whether you purchase items with the Old Navy credit card or through another payment method, Old Navy will have you covered, or better clad, to your liking no matter how many tries it takes. Having a friendly return policy stops you from having to resort to keeping something you don’t like or selling your purchases through a third party online.

How To Return Items to Old Navy

The Old Navy return policy allows customers 30 days to return items they don’t want for a full refund. This is either 30 days after the date of purchase in-store, or 30 days after the shipment date if ordered online. 

If the item being returned is a gift you won’t be able to return it for a cash refund, but you will be able to exchange it or get an Options gift card in the amount of the original purchase price. The Options gift card is accepted at Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta stores or websites. Steps for returning items may vary depending on where you purchased your item.

Returning Items by Mail 

If you follow the interactive returns process on the Old Navy website, returning items will be free as you will be able to print out a prepaid UPS shipping label as well as a packing slip. To mail in your return you can follow these instructions.

1. Choose items you wish to return.
2. Create and print a mailing label.
3. Pack your return securely and use original packaging if possible.
4. Put the packing slip inside your return package.
5. Attach the shipping label to the outside of your return package.
6. Take your return package to the nearest UPS location.
7. Ship your package.

Returning Items In-Store

You can return items purchased at an Old Navy store or online via the Old Navy website to any Old Navy location within 30 days of either purchase or shipping date. To return Old Navy items in store simply follow these steps.

1. Go to your local Old Navy store.
2. Bring the item back in its original packaging from the store or packaging in which it was delivered. 
3. Tell a sales associate you would like to return the item.
4. Produce either the receipt, original credit card used for the purchase or the shipping confirmation email.

Returns After 30 Days

Though you will not be able to return your item for a refund if more than 30 days have passed since the purchase date, you could still possibly receive store credit. Whether or not you get store credit is up to the Old Navy sales associate helping you, but your chances are increased if the item you are returning fits the following criteria.

• You have the receipt verifying your purchase
• Your item still has its tags
• The item is still being sold and is part of Old Navy’s current stock

Returns Without a Receipt

If you would like to return your Old Navy product and you do not have your receipt you do still have options. As long as you are within 30 days of your purchase date you can follow these steps but be advised that returns without receipts are up to Old Navy’s discretion.

1. Ask an Old Navy employee for help returning an item without a receipt.
2. Have them look up your credit or debit card used for the purchase.
3. Be sure to have a valid ID with you such as a driver’s license, passport or state ID.

Returns vs. Holiday Returns

The standard Old Navy return policy allows customers 30 days from the date of purchase to return their items. For holiday purchases Old Navy expands the return window which takes some of the pressure off of gift-giving and receiving.

• Items purchased between Oct. 24 and Dec. 24 can be returned by Jan. 15, or 30 days after the purchase date or shipping date if that is later.
• Online items being returned through the mail must get to Old Navy by Jan. 15 or 30 days after the purchase date or shipping date if that is later.

Old Navy Items You Cannot Return

There are items once purchased that cannot be returned to Old Navy. The following products are not accepted as returns in any capacity.

• Worn items
• Swimwear without tags
• Final sale items
• Items no longer sold in-store

Final Take

Though Old Navy is associated with stores such as Gap, Banana Republic or Athleta, only purchases made through Old Navy can be returned to Old Navy. Keep in mind that Old Navy sticks to its return policy of being within 30 days if you are looking for a full cash refund.
