Whether you love it or hate it, shopping for groceries and household items is something everyone has to do. But with high prices, it can be hard to shop on a budget. Thankfully, a plethora of discount shopping alternatives exist. GOBankingRates dove in deep on two popular retailers to find some great deals.
While Walmart often has low prices, some of Aldi’s latest deals prove that it can offer some competition. Here’s a detailed look at where you can save by choosing Aldi over Walmart.

Roses
For those who are planning to pick up flowers, Aldi’s offerings are often cheaper than Walmart’s. A dozen roses at Aldi cost just $4.99, while Walmart regularly charges $14.97 for its basic dozen roses bouquet (though they’re currently on sale post-Valentine’s Day).
Fresh Produce
Aldi’s produce section has impressive savings on several items. Fresh strawberries are priced at $2.55 at Aldi, while Walmart charges $2.86. While this is a small difference, the savings can add up.
Asparagus at Aldi is priced at $3.29 for a pound. At Walmart, a bunch of asparagus is $3.67. A pint of blueberries at Aldi are competitively priced at $2.75. A pint at Walmart is $3.67.
These are prices that just can’t be beat — even by Walmart.
Bedding
Aldi’s kid-approved bedroom comforters are an even better deal than what Walmart’s selling. Aldi has complete twin-size bed comforter sets for just $14.99. Walmart has a twin comforter set with a similar pattern for $39.99, though it does come with a decorative pillow as well.
Walmart has comforter sets for less than that available as well, but there aren’t many options for under $15.
Coffee Tumbler
Always losing your reusable coffee mug? Fear not — just head to Aldi!
Aldi has a selection of 13 1/2-ounce travel coffee cups for just $3.99. Walmart offers a similar travel cup for more than double the price at $9.99 for a similar size.
Shop Smart
Keep in mind that while these prices reflect current deals, they may vary by location. The key is to check both stores’ weekly ads and plan your shopping accordingly.
For the biggest savings, consider stocking up on nonperishable items when they hit their lowest prices at Aldi.
Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
