If you’re buying supplies for a Labor Day celebration or a quick weekend trip, costs can add up fast. That’s why you should head to Dollar Tree. With its wide selection of affordable items — many priced at $1.25 — you can get everything you need without overspending.
Whether you’re picking up decorations and grilling tools for a backyard barbecue or grabbing snacks and toiletries for the road, Dollar Tree offers these 11 affordable options to help you stay within your budget during the holiday weekend.
Snacks
Amanda Schmitt, owner of Life as Mama, said she always stocks up on chips, pretzels, bottled water and juice boxes from Dollar Tree when she’s hosting an outdoor party. She recommended the full-size bags of popular chips and movie theater candy boxes.
Festive Decorations
If you’re hosting a party, decorations are a must.
“For decor, Dollar Tree’s mini flags, lanterns and floral picks add festive touches,” Schmitt said.
Luke Heinecke, mid-market manager for Linear Design, said that Dollar Tree also has banners, streamers and centerpieces to help dress up any space.
“Their gift wrap, tissue and bags make it easy to create custom party favors or table settings on a budget,” he said. “I find inspiration from their holiday merchandise to reuse in creative ways year-round.”
Outdoor Toys
If kids will be at your event, it’s smart to have entertainment. But that doesn’t mean your options have to break the bank.
Schmitt said, “For outdoor fun, Dollar Tree has pool toys, squirt guns, bubbles and kazoos for the kids.”
Craft Supplies
“Dollar Tree craft supplies are ideal for DIY projects to keep kids busy,” Schmitt shared. “I grab plain T-shirts, canvas bags and other blank items for easy customization. At around $1, I can experiment without much waste.”
Party Decor
Heinecke said that for his own Labor Day events, he stocks up on red, white and blue party supplies.
“Things like patriotic plates, napkins, cups and tablecloths help create a festive atmosphere for barbecues and picnics,” he said.
Drugstore Essentials
“If traveling, don’t overlook their selection of toiletries, wet wipes and basic meds,” Heinecke explained. “Dollar Tree’s pregnancy tests, bandages and hand sanitizers are lifesavers on crowded road trips or at jam-packed public places. You’ll save a bundle over drugstore prices.”
Grill Tools and Utensils
Mary Safar, owner of Fine Signs of LA and a regular shopper at Dollar Tree, said that the store offers a selection of grill tools such as tongs, spatulas and skewers, which are much cheaper than similar items in other stores.
“Given the price, they surprisingly have good quality, which makes them perfect for an outdoor barbeque set,” she said.
Aluminum Pans and Foil
“Aluminum pans and foils are a must-have for any barbecue because they enable perfect grilling with no mess to clean up afterwards,” Safar said. “They can be used both for cooking as well as serving food while their disposable nature means minimum fuss when clearing up.”
She also said that disposable aluminum pans not only save you money but time cleaning up, as well — especially if there’s a large number of people involved.
Reusable Plastic Cutlery
Safar said that even though you can use reusable plastic cutlery again, it’s cheap enough to discard after use. Again this can save you a considerable amount of time regarding cleanup.
Solar-Powered Garden Lights
Safar said that solar-powered garden lights are the perfect pick when trying to brighten up outdoor spaces during evening parties.
“Solar-powered garden lights don’t require electricity whatsoever which makes them environmentally friendly as well as cost effective too,” she said. “They’re easy to install and can be used where there’s no access to sockets, making them a versatile item for different types of outdoor environments.”
