Costco’s relentless expansion continues as the warehouse giant is set to add nearly a dozen new locations across multiple countries this summer. Costco just crossed the 900-location milestone and now has major growth plans that span from Texas to Sweden.
If you’ve been waiting for a Costco closer to home, or wondering whether the retail behemoth is coming to your area, here’s what’s on the horizon for 2025.
The Summer 2025 Expansion Wave
Costco has announced 10 new locations opening between June and August 2025 — it’s one of its most ambitious quarterly expansion pushes in recent years. The new warehouses are everywhere from small American towns to major international cities.
June 2025:
- Pyeongtaek, South Korea
- Malmö, Sweden
July 2025:
- Midland, Texas
August 2025:
- Rimouski, Quebec, Canada
- The Villages, Florida
- North Guadalajara, Mexico
- Richland, Washington
- Allen, Texas
- East Newmarket, Ontario, Canada
- Spring Valley, Nevada
This is part of Costco’s continued strategy of entering both underserved suburban markets and establishing footholds in international locations where warehouse shopping is gaining popularity. (Anyone who has visited TikTok, Instagram or YouTube lately will notice a major uptick in international Costco content from creators.)
Texas Gets 2 New Warehouses
Texas stands out as the biggest winner in this expansion round, with new locations planned for both Midland and Allen.Â
Midland, located in West Texas oil country, represents an interesting choice for Costco. The city’s economy has been bolstered by the Permian Basin energy boom, creating a customer base with the disposable income that Costco’s bulk purchasing model attracts.
Allen, a suburb north of Dallas, makes more obvious sense given the explosive growth of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The area has seen massive residential development, and a new Costco will serve families in one of Texas’s fastest-growing regions.
International Expansion Continues
Costco’s international growth shows no signs of slowing, with new warehouses planned for South Korea, Sweden, Mexico and two locations in Canada.
The Malmö, Sweden, location is particularly noteworthy as it represents Costco’s continued European expansion. Sweden’s embrace of bulk shopping and warehouse-style retail makes it a natural fit for Costco’s business model.
South Korea continues to be a strong market for Costco, with the Pyeongtaek location adding to its existing presence in the country.Â
Targeting Underserved Communities
Several of the new locations target areas that have been underserved by warehouse retailers. Richland, Washington, and The Villages, Florida, represent smaller markets where Costco sees opportunities to capture customers who previously had to drive significant distances to reach a warehouse.
The Villages, Florida, is particularly interesting as it’s primarily a retirement community. This suggests Costco believes its model appeals strongly to retirees who like to buy in bulk and save.Â
The Road to 1,000 Locations
With these 10 new warehouses, Costco could approach 1,000 locations worldwide within the next few years. The company has been averaging about 20-25 new locations per year recently, and all signs point to Costco continuing this rapid expansion pace. The company’s strong financial performance and member loyalty provide the foundation for its continued growth.
