Dollar Tree isn’t always a $1.25 deal anymore — and shoppers are starting to notice. With price hikes rolling out on more items, it’s getting harder to know when something costs more than it used to.

If you’re trying to stretch your budget, here’s how to quickly tell if an item has been marked up at Dollar Tree.

Look for the Red Sticker

Most Dollar Tree shoppers will have noticed the red dot stickers on some items. This red dot system is in place to let the shoppers know that a price change will happen (or already has happened) to the item in question, according to Allrecipes.

To locate the actual cost of the item, look at the bottom of the shelf where Dollar Tree has put a price strip that lists the price. Another way to find out the cost is to look at the item’s packaging to see if there’s a price sticker.

Dollar Tree’s Price Change

Although Dollar Tree was known for decades as the $1 store, in 2021, it raised its prices to $1.25. Now, the retailer is pricing some items well beyond that. Dollar Tree announced in 2024 it would begin pricing a select number of items between $1.50 and $7. Lately, the retailer has been raising prices on some products from $1.25 up to $1.50 or even $1.75.
