Last year, the National Retail Federation reported that Americans would spend around $12 billion on Halloween. That includes candy, home decorations, costumes, parties and more. Additionally, many Americans have started shopping for Halloween earlier in the year as a way to mark the transition to fall — and possibly to save money since candy is only getting more expensive.

For those who want to celebrate the spooky spirit without spending a lot, they might be surprised to find that Dollar Tree offers some excellent Halloween items, including outdoor decor. Many of Dollar Tree’s items are even cheaper than Costco. (Yes, even some of the candy!)

Recently, Dollar Tree even added a department called More Choices, which showcases several products in the $3 and $5 price points. This department has similar brands that customers would find in Costco but at a lower price point.

Here are three Halloween items to buy at Dollar Tree that cost more at Costco, and may still be available, given how quickly Costco Halloween finds vanish:

Faux Pumpkins

Dollar Tree is selling Carvable Foam Pumpkins for $1.50. Customers can use several of these to decorate their homes, whether they want to make a table centerpiece or add a few foam pumpkins to their front porches.

Costco also sells pumpkin decorations, such as this adorable Mickey Mouse Halloween Treat Bowl, but it’s priced at $35.99. If customers opt for the Dollar Tree pumpkin decorations, they could purchase several of them and still have a lower bill than just one pumpkin bowl at Costco. And you can still fill your homemade bowl with Costco’s yummiest deals.

Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids are a go-to candy favorite and Dollar Tree actually offers a better price per ounce on this popular Candy.

At Costco, customers can get a 24-count Sour Patch Kids Candy in 2-ounce bags for $23.68. However, at Dollar Tree, customers can get a Halloween-themed Spooky Mix variety pack of candy that includes Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish. Each bag is $3.50 for 9.7 ounces of candy, making it 36 cents per ounce. That’s less per ounce than Costco’s price of 49 cents per ounce.

Spooky Outdoor Decorations

Costco is known for some over-the-top outdoor decorations. It has an LED Pop-Up Halloween Friends set for $159.97, for example. But customers can also get smaller decor options, like this Jack Skellington treat bowl for $49.99.

For those who don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on Halloween decorations, Dollar Tree has Decorative Halloween Lawn Stakes and Decorative Halloween Tombstones, both for $1.50. At those prices, they’ll have plenty of room left over for candy, which is really what Halloween is all about. And don’t worry, if you love your trips to the wholesale club, there are still plenty of great Halloween finds that only exist at Costco.

Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location. Pricing is accurate as of Oct. 14, 2025. Pricing and availability are subject to change.
