Who doesn’t love a good bargain? Certainly shoppers at Dollar Tree this April will be on the lookout.
As you scope out the best deals, start with these tips from discount shopping experts.
The Perfect $20 Haul at Dollar Tree This April
“If you had $20 to spend at Dollar Tree this April, you’d get incredible value focusing on seasonal essentials and a few fun viral finds,” noted Laurie Hise, founder of Passionate Penny Pincher.
When asked to list out her ideal shopping basket for $20 at Dollar Tree, Hise provided the following breakdown:
- 1 Easter basket ($1.25)
- 2 kids’ books ($2.50)
- 1 stackable 3-section garden planter ($1.25)
- 2 coconut liners for hanging baskets ($2.50)
- 1 set of gardening gloves ($1.25)
- 1 floral metal wreath form ($1.25)
- 1 pack of microfiber cleaning cloths ($1.25)
- 1 multi-surface cleaning spray ($1.25)
- 2 Spring-themed storage bins ($2.50)
- 2 sets of glass food storage containers ($2.50)
- 2 greeting cards for upcoming occasions ($2.50)
Total: $20.00
Obviously, you may not need all of those items — shoppers without kids don’t need children’s books, for example. Still, several trends peek through Hise’s list, which are worth a closer look.
April Shopping Tips for Dollar Tree
Where should you start focusing your $20 shopping list? Here are a few areas to consider:
Cleaning Supplies
Hise’s list included several cleaning supplies, and for good reason.
“April is cleaning season,” Nick Drewe, bargain hunting expert at Wethrift, pointed out. “Consider purchasing microfiber cloths (2-pack), scrub brushes, all-purpose cleaning solutions and rubber gloves — all at $1.25.”
For $5, you can buy most of the cleaning essentials you need to clear the cobwebs before summer.
Garden Supplies
Likewise, now is the time to prep your garden for shrubs, flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Drewe explained that you can buy more than gardening tools at Dollar Tree. “If you want to plant a garden this year, you can purchase seed packets for $1.25 each,” he said. “Get cherry tomatoes, basil and green beans at Dollar Tree.”
Seasonal Decor
“Anyone looking to give the house a makeover without breaking the bank can also check Dollar Tree’s seasonal decor,” added Drewe. He pointed to decorative glass vases, spring-themed hangers and spring-themed tea towels — all for $1.25.
Graduation and Mother’s Day Gifts
Hise recommended looking ahead to what you’ll need in May, as well. Specifically, she pointed to Mother’s Day gifts and graduation gifts and decor.
Easter Candy
So, what shouldn’t you buy at Dollar Tree this May?
“Skip Easter candy at Dollar Tree,” warned Hise. “Your favorite Reese’s or Cadbury egg will cost you $1.25 each at the Dollar Tree, compared to their everyday low price of $0.99 at stores like Walmart and Target.”
Spring purchases like cleaning accessories and gardening supplies don’t have to cost you more than a lunch. Take a crisp $20 bill to Dollar Tree and challenge yourself to spend only that one bill, and see what you can haul home.
