Summer is a busy time of year for retailers like Lowe’s. Consumers flock there during the warm months to buy lawn and gardening equipment, soil and fertilizer, plants, grills and barbecue accessories, patio furniture and other summertime staples.
Although Lowe’s runs seasonal specials on various items throughout the year, you don’t need to wait until those roll around to save money. Lowe’s employees know the insider tricks on how to save throughout the year. Here are seven insider tips you should know. You can also check out several insider secrets for Target, too.
Score Contractor Deals
Lowe’s gets a lot of its business from construction, repair and other contractors and offers them special deals through its MVPs Pro Rewards program. You don’t have to be a licensed contractor to take part, though.
The rewards program works through tiers based on how much you spend each year. If you spend between $2,500 and $9,999, you can earn 1% off your purchases on a Lowe’s e-gift card. If you spend more than $10,000 you can earn 1.25% in e-gift cards, and if you spend more than $25,000 you earn 1.5%.
Buy in Bulk
Similar to contractor discounts, you can also save money when you buy items in bulk at Lowe’s.
Again, this might apply if you have a major DIY project around the house, such as a room addition or major renovation. Even if you don’t do all the work yourself, you can still buy large quantities of hardware or building supplies to save money.
Take Advantage of the Lowest Price Guarantee
With the Lowest Price Guarantee, if you find a current lower price on an identical in-stock item from another local retailer, Lowe’s will match the price. You just need to show the website, ad, printout or photo to an associate so it can be validated.
The guarantee includes the price of the item(s) plus shipping or delivery cost. If you see a lower price on an identical online item, use the Lowe’s chat feature on its website or call 877-465-6937 for validation.
Find Rebate Offers
You can save hundreds of dollars on newly purchased items through Lowe’s online rebate center. Recent items eligible for rebates include kitchen range hoods, over-the-range microwave ovens, ice makers and dishwashers.
Sign Up for Lowe’s Emails
When you sign up for Lowe’s emails, you get access to discounts, exclusive offers and sales promotions along with weekly ads, DIY tips and sneak peeks of upcoming in-store events. You can register for emails by putting your email address in the window at the bottom of the Lowe’s homepage. You can also sign up for mobile alerts for savings opportunities.
Work at Lowe’s
All Lowe’s associates get a 10% discount on store merchandise as well as discounts on other products and services. This might be a good way to earn extra income with a part-time job while also scoring discounts at Lowe’s.
Buy Damaged or Used Goods
Lowe’s often offers discounts on items that are slightly damaged, are available in open boxes or have been used by other customers, such as scraps of wood or paint cans returned by customers. You can use your negotiation skills to get discounts of up to 10% to 20% off. These items are often located at the rear of the store.
