While the U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts that residential electricity prices will only rise a modest 2% in 2025 before accounting for inflation, most Americans are likely looking for ways to save on energy costs this winter. 

Consider these Lowe’s items under $50 to help reduce utility bills. 

LED Light Bulbs

According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), LED bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last up to 25 times longer.

Lowe’s offers eight-packs of 60-watt Warm White or Soft White LED bulbs for $17.99 — both of which are good color choices for the inside of your home. LED bulbs are available at Lowe’s in a variety of wattages and colors. 

Caulk

Sealing air leaks, such as those around windows, can save you up to 10% on your yearly energy bills, according to the DOE. It suggests purchasing one-half cartridge per door or window that needs sealing.

Different applications require different types of caulk, so make sure you choose the correct product. A bestseller at Lowe’s is GE Advanced Silicone 2 Caulk for windows, doors and exteriors at $10.98 per cartridge. 

Weatherstripping

Just like caulk, weatherstripping can also seal air leaks and help you save up to 10% per year on energy bills. Lowe’s sells a variety of weatherstripping materials, including M-D Black Door Seal Silicone Door Weatherstrip for $22.98. 

Programmable Thermostat

Save an additional 10% per year on heating (and cooling) with a programmable thermostat. During the winter, the DOE recommends setting your thermostat from 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit while you’re awake at home, and setting it lower if you’re gone during the day or sleeping.
