Even dollar stores are feeling the pinch of rising prices, but savvy shoppers are still scoring big and saving money. While it’s known for budget-friendly basics and off-brand finds, Dollar Tree also sells some of the same name-brand merchandise as supercenters like Target — often for half the price. From school supplies to snacks and pantry staples, here are five products you can grab at Dollar Tree that’ll set you back much more at Target.

Composition Notebooks

With back-to-school shopping just around the corner, it may be time to get some much-needed supplies for the students or teachers in your life. Though the Target item, Mead Primary Composition notebook, does have more pages per book, it still works out to being more expensive than the Dollar Tree counterpart. 

Eggo Cinnamon French Toaster Sticks

• Target price: $3.19

Name-brand Eggo French Toaster Sticks are a steal for $3.00 at Dollar Tree. You’ll pay $0.19 more for the same product at Target.

Chicken of the Sea Crabmeat

• Dollar Tree price: $1.25 (3.53 ounces)
• Target price: $12.99 (6 ounces)

Crabmeat is perfect for homemade sushi, easy crab bisque soup or crab dip. You can find name brand Chicken of the Sea Crabmeat, the same company known for canned tuna, in pouches for just $1.25 at Dollar Tree.

Target doesn’t seem to carry the exact same product, but a 6-ounce can of the same brand comes to $12.99. When you comparison shop, you always want to check package sizes to ensure you’re really saving money. For example, here, you pay about $0.35 per ounce at Dollar Tree and $2.17 per ounce at Target.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks

• Target price: $9.39 (40-count)

For those looking to grab a delicious, fruity snack on the go, you have options at either retailer. Dollar Tree has the Welch’s brand for just $1.25. Target, meanwhile, offers the snack in bulk at a higher price tag. That means you can actually get a better deal at Target, but if you don’t need 40 bags of fruit snacks, Dollar Tree still offers a pretty good price.

Nestle Coffee Mate Original Powdered Coffee Creamer

• Dollar Tree price: $1.25 
• Target price: $5.99

Find this Nestle Coffee Mate Coffee Creamer in 16-ounce containers at either store, for very different price tags. Target sells the Coffee Mate brand for $5.99, whereas Dollar Tree has it for the tried and true $1.25. Saving money is a great way to start the day.
