When you retire and are on a fixed income, every dollar counts. With the rising cost of everything from groceries to household essentials, many people are now shopping at stores like Sam’s Club, where you can buy items in bulk and save money.

And if you have a Sam’s Club membership, you can get exclusive deals and discounts on hundreds of items.

GOBankingRates spoke with Pamela C., a retired boomer from Louisiana, who shared eight things she always buys from Sam’s Club to save money.

Cleaning Supplies

Keeping a house clean is non-negotiable for many people, including Pamela. She buys Clorox wipes, clean-up spray, bleach, toilet bowl cleaner, and glass cleaner in bulk from Sam’s Club, which can go for months.

“I used to shop for cleaning supplies at a nearby store, but when I realized I was paying more for what I got, I made a switch,” Pamela said. “Now, I get more for my money and fewer trips to the store.”

Meat

Sam’s Club is known for its high-quality cuts of meat. From ground beef to ground turkey, chicken, and other frozen meats, you won’t regret visiting their meat section. “I shop all my meat from Sam’s Club and portion everything out into freezer bags,” she said. This way, Pamela doesn’t have to drive to the store every week, saving her gas costs.

Paper Towels

Most of us can’t go a day without using a paper towel. Getting premium paper towels that can last for months at the best deal is something to snag. “I get 15 rolls of Member’s Mark Select & Tear 2-Ply paper towels for less than $20, which is a steal if you ask me,” she said.

Trash Bags

Trash bags are a necessity for every household, and buying them in bulk reduces the cost per bag. People don’t realize how they overpay for small packs of trash bags. “A few packs of trash bags from Sam’s Club cost less than $20 each, and I’m set for months.”

Spices and Seasonings

Cooking at home is one of the best ways to save money and eat healthily. Having a variety of spices and seasonings lets you prepare flavorful meals without extra costs. “Meals taste better when you’re not overpaying for ingredients.”

Rotisserie Chicken

A fully cooked rotisserie chicken from Sam’s Club is not only cost-effective but also a convenient meal option. “Sam’s Club’s rotisserie chickens are bigger, tastier, and a much better deal,” Pamela added. At under $5, this is a steal compared to other grocery stores.

Greek Yogurt

Dairy products like Greek yogurt can become expensive, but Sam’s Club has better deals than most other stores. “I eat Greek yogurt every morning and used to spend way more on those little cup servings,” Pamela said. Buying them in big containers has significantly reduced her expenses.

Tires

If you’re a Sam’s Club member, you may want to consider shopping for your car tires at the store. They have a wide selection of tire brands to choose from and are priced competitively. “Not only are tires cheaper at Sam’s Club, but they also offer other perks like free installation, balance, tire rotation, and disposal of old tires,” Pamela said.
