At Five Below, most things are around $5 or less — with some exceptions. But don’t be lured in by the seemingly low price tag. You can find certain seasonal items for less, often with a comparable quality, at other retailers.
Here are six items you might want to stop buying seasonally at Five Below and where you can shop instead.
Green Christmas Tree
- Price: $7
If you want to get an early start on Christmas shopping, you can get a four-foot artificial tree at Five Below for $7. Or you could save $1 by getting a nearly identical tree at Dollar Tree.
The trees from both stores are unlit and require some assembly. But while the ones at Five Below only come in green, Dollar Tree offers these trees in green or white.
Christmas Tree Ornament
- Price: $1 each
At Five Below, you can fill your shopping cart with cute Christmas tree ornaments. From balloons and crowns to little boots, spending $1 apiece might seem like a bargain.
But know that Dollar Tree offers more bang for your buck. For example, you can get a set of two dangling holiday boots for $1.50 — that’s $0.75 each. Or if you’re going for a classic look, pick up a seven-pack of round Christmas tree ornaments for $1.50.
Multicolor Christmas Lights (70-count)
- Price: $4
Five Below’s prices on Christmas string lights are hard to beat — but not impossible. If you’ve got a Dollar General nearby, you can get a comparable item for $1 less.
In both cases, you can dress up the interior or exterior of your home. You’ll also need an outlet to plug them in. Besides price, the main difference is the lights at Five Below are 15.2 feet long, while the ones at Dollar General are 14.5 feet long.
Fall or Halloween Throw Pillows
- Price: $5.55
If you’re looking for something more suited to spring or even fall, the Five Below sells flower-printed throw pillows ($5.55). But despite the low prices, you can still find more affordable options at Amazon. This includes a ghostly, 18-inch-by-18-inch throw pillow for $4.99. And for something you can keep out the entire fall season, check out these Farm Fresh decorative pillows for $4.99.
Fall Scented Candles
- Price: $7
Nothing quite sets the tone for the fall season like pumpkin-scented candles, which you can get in 13.5-ounce jars for $7 at Five Below. But if you don’t want to spend that much, or if you’re looking to stock up, you might want to check out Dollar Tree.
At Dollar Tree, you can get two 8-ounce, cedar-scented candles for $3 each. You can also vary it up by picking up an amber-scented candle and a cranberry chutney candle. These are also $3 each and come in the same size jars.
