A McKinsey & Company ConsumerWise survey found that 37% of Americans planned to cut spending on apparel since they felt uneasy about the economy.

Known for its budget-friendly clothing and accessory prices, Old Navy is a good place to get some relief on these discretionary purchases. However, you can save even more if you know when to shop, where to find extra discounts and how to avoid costly shipping fees.

Here are seven of the best Old Navy shopping tricks to help you save on your next trip.

Join Navyist Rewards

Whether or not you’re an Old Navy credit card holder, you’ll get access to several nice perks if you join the free Navyist Rewards program.

The basic membership available to all lets you earn rewards points you can use toward items at Old Navy and its partner brands. Plus, you’ll get exclusive offers, a birthday gift and free shipping benefits with a $50 minimum order.

If you spend at least $500 per year or have the retailer’s credit card, you can qualify for higher tiers with perks like a 20% welcome coupon, a more generous rewards program, early sales event access and even a personalized sales day.

Watch for Major Sales and Markdowns

Old Navy is famous for its big sales around key times, like Black Friday, back-to-school season, Memorial Day, Labor Day and the start of summer. Some of these sales events have deals on many categories, while others focus on a particular thing, like flip-flops or PJs.

Keep an eye on the Old Navy website so you don’t miss the savings. This is especially important for the random one-day events, which tend to offer deep discounts.

You should also check for online and in-store clearance items after big holidays and at the end of each season. According to the Krazy Coupon Lady website, Sundays and Mondays are popular days for Old Navy markdowns.

Shop Online for More Deals

While buying on the Old Navy website is more convenient than driving to the store, it can also lead to bigger savings. The retailer often has sales events, promotions or specific items labeled as “online exclusives,” and you’ll miss out if you try to get these in person.

Also, if you’re shopping at your local Old Navy and see that the store’s website shows the item cheaper, try asking customer service about a potential price match. Just make sure it’s not an online-only deal or clearance item.

Get the Best Coupons

Old Navy is less generous than some other retailers since you usually can’t stack promo codes or coupons. However, it does offer ways to get generous discounts on eligible orders.

First, check Old Navy’s promo codes page or the “Offers” tab on the mobile app regularly to see what’s available. If you’re a Navying Rewards member, also watch for special promo codes that pop up on your account.

Other options include joining the store’s email list, which currently gets you a 30% order discount and signing up for text alerts, which may lead to various coupons.

Take Advantage of Super Cash

If you shop when Old Navy holds Super Cash events, an order of $25 or more gets you a physical coupon or promo code that lets you save money on a future purchase online or at your local store. For example, spending $100 would get you $40 off your future eligible purchase.

Keep in mind that the maximum reward you can get is $60 for one transaction and that you won’t be able to use the Super Cash with most other coupons. Plus, these rewards have an expiration date.

Skip Paying for Shipping

While basic shipping at Old Navy starts at $7, you can use these tricks to save yourself the fee:

  • If you’re a Navyist Rewards member, place a $50 minimum order, which can also include products from the brands Athleta, GAP and Banana Republic.
  • Watch Old Navy’s website for free shipping promotions, which may be available to everybody and have a lower minimum order amount.
  • Place an online order at your Old Navy store for free shipping on any order amount or do an online order for free in-store pickup.

Ask for Price Adjustments

If you buy something at Old Navy and see that the store lowers the price before 14 days have passed, you can ask for a price adjustment to get back the difference. However, the item can’t be marked as final sale and the only coupon you may have used on it was a free shipping promotion.
