Amazon may have led the industry with the advent of two-day shipping, but same-day delivery has become even more popular in recent years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, being able to have groceries and home necessities delivered safely to the front door in just a few hours became a convenience many families relied on.
While Amazon’s Prime membership may still be the go-to for many, the savings available at big warehouse stores like Costco continue to drive customer loyalty. BJ’s Warehouse is one such brand that offers same-day delivery, but whether this deal stacks up to Amazon Prime’s benefits depends on your location and how frequently you shop.
BJ’s Warehouse Same-Day Delivery
- What it costs: $14.99 flat fee regardless of order size
- Items included: Grocery and household essentials, like toilet paper and laundry supplies
At $14.99 per order, frequent use of the same-day delivery option could add up. However, BJ’s does offer membership add-ons for frequent shoppers, which might make this deal more enticing:
- Same-Day Select Multipack
- Allows customers to place up to 12 same-day delivery orders per year, though unused deliveries don’t carry over to the following year
- Price: $45
- Same-Day Select Unlimited
- Allows customers unlimited same-day deliveries each year, but not more than two per day
- Price: $80
An active BJ’s membership is required for all of the options listed above. The basic Club Card membership carries an annual fee of $55, while the Club+ Card membership is $110.
Other Terms
- Same-day delivery is only available in select ZIP codes within 15 to 20 minutes of a BJ’s Warehouse.
- Customers must use a debit or credit card for same-day delivery orders, which means no digital wallets like PayPal or Venmo.
- Same-Day Select membership benefits only apply to orders of $60 or more.
Amazon Prime Same-Day Delivery
- What it costs: Free with Prime membership for orders over $25
- Prime orders under $25 incur a $2.99 fee, while non-Prime members pay $9.99 per order.
- Items included: No category limitations
Unlike BJ’s, non-members can still get Amazon same-day delivery — and at a much lower price. Free delivery still requires an active Prime membership, however. Members can pay $14.99 per month or $139 per year. In addition, Amazon offers reduced membership fees for students and those receiving certain kinds of government financial assistance, such as SNAP benefits.

- Eligible items depend on your delivery location.
- Items display an “order within” countdown clock if same-day delivery is an option for your delivery address. Orders must be placed before the timer expires to be eligible for same-day delivery.
Which One’s Cheaper?
Amazon offers same-day shipping at no extra charge for Prime members, but its membership prices are higher than BJ’s. Paying the $9.99 non-member delivery fee on Amazon looks to be the cheapest bet for customers looking to make just a few orders per year. If you order more often but are primarily buying groceries and household essentials, BJ’s basic membership and Same-Day Select Unlimited add-on may work out to be the better deal — though Unlimited customers are limited to two deliveries per day. For those looking to order frequently and buy a wider range of items, however, Amazon Prime still reigns supreme.
