If you’re a Costco member, you probably already know how overwhelming shopping at the warehouse club can feel — especially if you don’t come prepared. When you start thinking about all those deals Costco has, making decisions becomes that much harder.

That’s why we asked ChatGPT which deals are the best at Costco this winter. Here’s what the artificial intelligence tool suggested, and whether or not the advice holds up.
Focus on Winter Staples, Says ChatGPT
The first deals to look for at Costco, according to ChatGPT are winter staples like apparel, accessories and gear. It highlighted three specific options:
- This 32 Degrees Ladies’ Winter Tech Jacket costs $7.97, which is practically a steal. It also has 4.7 stars, with customers praising its flattering cut, low price and overall warmth.
- Although frequently cited as being heavy, these Sorel Caribou Boots get overall solid reviews online for doing the job — which is to keep your feet warm and dry. The pricing isn’t listed online, but ChatGPT estimated they cost around $129.99, which is around $70 cheaper than what you’d pay elsewhere.
- The 58-inch extendable Hopkins Maxx-Force Extendable Snowbrush & Ice Scraper is a must for anyone living in snowy or icy regions. When on sale, the AI estimated its cost at $39.99. However, it’s available only through Costco Business.
Besides that, ChatGPT also suggested stocking up on any other winter tool or accessory you need. While it didn’t give specifics, you might want to watch for deals on items like:
- Utility sleds
- Electric heated blankets
- Snow shovels (compact or full-sized)
- Other snow tools
Get Deals on Groceries, Too
Unsurprisingly for a store like Costco, ChatGPT also recommended picking up kitchen staples when they’re on sale — especially those under the Kirkland Signature brand. Specific recommendations include:
- A great snack for those watching their diet, you’ll get 28 miniature bags of Skinny Pop popcorn that are perfect for movie nights. ChatGPT said they’re often $4 off. They’re also highly rated, with 4.7 stars.
- Need a variety pack of nut-free, gluten-free, vegan and non-GMO oats? This 24-count of MadeGood Granola Minis is kid-friendly, and costs just $14.49. As per ChatGPT, it’s also on sale frequently for $4 off.
- While the price might not be $4.99 anymore, you can still get a good deal on Costco’s rotisserie chicken. It’s affordable and perfect for those chilly winter nights when you want something hot to eat, but don’t want to cook.
- For $14.99, you can get a pound of Kirkland Signature maple syrup. According to ChatGPT, it’s high quality, and comparable to other store prices. It’s also great for early morning breakfast pancakes.
- Gluten-free and kosher, these Kirkland Signature nut bars are a great source of fiber, and the perfect on-the-go snack any time of year. They cost less than 60 cents per bar.
If none of these appeal to you, ChatGPT also suggested stocking up on Nature’s Path Granola, Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt or General Mills Honey Nut Cheerios when on sale.
AI’s Shopping Tips
ChatGPT offered two main tips for those looking to save money when shopping at Costco:
- Check pricing codes: “Items ending in .97 are usually clearance,” wrote the AI tool. “.49/.69/.79 often indicate manufacturer specials.”
- Upgrade your membership: It also suggested upgrading to a Costco Executive Membership to take advantage of 2% cash rewards. According to the AI, some regular shoppers add up to $200 in savings annually.
What Did ChatGPT Get Right?
All in all, ChatGPT’s suggestions make a lot of sense — especially when the items listed are actually marked down.
That said, some of its suggestions — like Men Sorel’s Caribou boots and Keurig K-Cup Pods — were out of date or no longer available at Costco. Pricing for the various items, and even the quantities in some cases, have also changed. This could be partly due to regional differences, however, which ChatGPT does acknowledge.
