The retailer has been around for decades and is a trusted name for value and quality for budget-conscious consumers. However, retail experts warn that if you want the best deals, selection and excellent overall shopping experience, there’s one day to avoid going in person. Here’s why.
Saturday Is the Worst Day To Shop at Old Navy in Person
Browsing the aisles at Old Navy is a great way to get a feel for the item, but Saturdays might not be the most convenient day to go.
“Crowds play a role, but most of the good sizes are already gone from earlier weekly shipments — you’re mostly left picking through what’s left, and you’ll be waiting in longer lines,” said Marty Bauer, e-commerce and retail expert at Omnisend.
Bauer isn’t the only one who believes Saturdays are the worst days to shop at Old Navy.
According to retail finance expert Melanie Musson at Quote.com, “Any items that are discounted have been on the rack for at least a week, so it’s likely the best deals are gone.”
Why Sunday Also Isn’t Ideal for Shopping at Old Navy Stores
Weekends are typically busier for retailers, since many consumers work during the week, and some experts advise avoiding Sundays, as well.
“Old Navy typically has markdowns on Sunday and Monday, but I would avoid in-store shopping on Sunday,” said Bobby Ghoshal, CEO of Dupe.com, an AI-powered website that helps shoppers find lower prices.
As a result of higher in-store traffic on Sundays, Ghoshal explained there’s often “stock issues,” and it’s better to shop online on those days to ensure a better selection, especially around seasonal gear.
The Best Days of the Week To Shop at Old Navy
Old Navy is known for its unbeatable deals, but during the week, prices drop even more. According to Bauer, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are good days to shop in person because new inventory is out, markdowns are set and the store is much quieter.
“You actually get the full range of sizes and an accurate picture of the real deals,” he said.
The other great days are Mondays, when new markdowns hit, and Thursdays, when sales start, according to Musson.
“I prefer markdowns to sales, so I give Mondays the edge,” she said. Musson added, “Also, Mondays and Thursdays are slower days at the store, so you can take your time perusing without feeling like you’re in someone’s way.”
How To Save More at Old Navy Year-Round
Every retailer has deals, but you can stretch your dollar further at Old Navy year-round. Not only can you find affordable, top-tier items, but there are promotions and rewards programs that you don’t have to jump through hoops to qualify for.
“With some retailers, you often feel like you’re chasing the carrot to get the freebie, the discount, etc., but that’s not the case with Old Navy’s program,” Ghoshal said.
Following Old Navy on social media is an easy way to find out about the discounts, which can also be combined with Super Cash promotions — a program where you spend $25 or more and earn Super Cash that you can spend on a later purchase.
Being strategic when shopping at Old Navy can lead to better prices and help you keep more money in your pocket.
