If you’re thinking of buying a new smartphone, such as the iPhone 14, you may be anticipating the small thrill of enjoying new features and enhanced performance with your next device. However, while some providers add significant updates and changes with every new phone release, the iPhone 14 falls short of expectations.

With few differences compared to previous versions, the iPhone 14 may not be the best choice, especially if you seek something new compared to previous versions. To help you make the wisest smartphone purchase decision depending on your budget and needs, here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone 14, including its pricing and features.

How the iPhone 14 Misses the Mark

Apple’s iPhone 14 misses the mark regarding new features, frustrating expectant users hoping for something different this time. Apple also introduced the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in its lineup, with arguably better features and a much higher price point.

Sales of the iPhone 14 after its release in September missed the mark because user expectations are no longer the same, and consumers want enhanced features. And when you have a new product with similar features to the one you already have, it’s hard to justify a new purchase — including the high iPhone 14 price, which starts at $799.

Forbes reported that Apple’s iPhone 14 experienced a lackluster reception during its rollout. Additionally, The Information reported that according to a source, two suppliers for the tech giant received orders to lower production by up to 90%. The silver lining? Sales of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are doing better, saving the 14 series from failure.

iPhone 14 Pricing and Features

As noted above, the iPhone 14 price starts at $799. It comes in six colors with a Ceramic Shield front, glass back and Apple’s signature aluminum design.

It is smaller and lighter than the other 14 series models, with a 6.1-inch diagonal OLED display screen and 2,532-by-1,170-pixel resolution at 460 pixels per inch. Battery life is better than previous versions, and it comes with all the features you expect the iPhone to have. The iPhone 14 also has an A15 Bionic chip, a six-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine.

The phone has three memory capacities: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

You have a powerful phone with solid features that cost less than the other iPhone 14 models in the lineup. But for what you pay, you still don’t have many new features that set the iPhone 14 apart aside from the enhanced battery life and better camera resolution.

If you want a more powerful, energy-efficient phone with a larger display, the Pro lineup of the 14 series may give you more bang for your buck.

The More Enhanced iPhones in the 14 Series

Apple has three other smartphone models in the 14 series lineup:

  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

The iPhone 14 Plus offers slightly different features if you want a bigger powerful phone. Like the iPhone 14, the 14 Plus comes in six colors and has three memory capacities. The difference is that the screen is larger, with a 6.7-inch display and weighing 7.16 ounces. The phone costs $899.

The Pro and Pro Max smartphones are Apple’s saving grace in the 14 series lineup. Powerful, large and with new and enhanced features, these phones are worth the splurge despite their steep price tag.

Both Pro line phones come in four colors and have Ceramic Shield front covers, textured matte glass backs and stainless steel designs. The Pro has a 6.1-inch screen with a 2,556-by-1,179-pixel resolution at 460 pixels per inch, while the Pro Max has a 6.7-inch display and a 2,796-by-1,290-pixel resolution at 460 pixels per inch. The phones also come with four capacity options, the largest being 1TB of storage.

Both models have Dynamic Island and Always-On display features, enhanced battery life, HDR display, the Pro camera system and an A16 Bionic chip. And their most notable and unique features are the Emergency SOS via satellite function and the crash-detection system, which are life-saving features that set these phones far apart from the competition.

Is the iPhone 14 Worth It?

Unless you need a new phone because your current one is at the end of its life, the iPhone 14 does not provide many new features that justify its cost.

Although the iPhone 14 is powerful, it lacks new features, enhancements and technology to differentiate it from previous models like the iPhone 13. If you are looking for something new and don’t rely on your phone to take professional videos and images, the iPhone 14 isn’t the best option. The phone doesn’t cut it if you seek a different experience from your iPhone 13. If you don’t need it, stick with your iPhone 13 and save money.

But suppose you want a more powerful phone with enhanced features that you can rely on professionally. In that case, consider going with the 14 Pro and Pro Max phones. Although their cost is higher than the iPhone 14 price, they have more robust features and technology that justify their hype and price.
