Headquartered in Boston, Eastern Bank is a regional bank with $25 billion in total assets. Following its merger with Cambridge Trust, Eastern is known as the largest bank-owned independent investment advisor in the state of Massachusetts. Eastern Bank provides consumer and personal banking services, with branches in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

What Is the Routing Number for Eastern Bank?

The Eastern Bank routing number is 011301798. This is the same routing number it had before the merger. It applies to all Eastern Bank branches and customers.

What Is the Routing Number for Cambridge Trust?

The routing number for Cambridge Trust is 011300595, which is the same routing number the financial institution used before the merger. This number now applies to Cambridge Trust-and former Eastern Bank–wealth management customers.

Where To Find the Eastern Bank Routing Number

If you are new to Eastern Bank or have forgotten your routing number, you can find it at easternbank.com near the bottom of the page underneath the list of helpful phone numbers. This block of information appears on the home page and other key pages of the website.

As with other banks, Eastern Bank also prints the routing number on the bottom left of every check.

You’ll also find the Eastern Bank routing number on the bank’s Checking Switch Kit, which makes it easy for new customers to sign up for direct deposit with Eastern and to establish automatic payments to and from the new account, including automatic bill pay.

Eastern Bank Accounts

Personal banking customers new to Eastern Bank can choose from a variety of products to help them manage their money.

The checking account comes with no monthly fees, access to online and mobile banking, as well as Zelle for P2P payments, and free access to thousands of ATMs in the SUM network.

Eastern Bank also offers savings, money markets and CDs with interest rates higher than the national average.

Eastern Bank Merger

In the summer of 2024, Eastern Bank merged with Cambridge Bancorp, the parent company of Cambridge Trust Company. The commercial, business and consumer banking divisions will continue to operate under the Eastern Bank brand, while the Wealth Management and Private Banking divisions for both banks will operate as Cambridge Trust.

Eastern Bank’s wealth management customers will begin to bank with Cambridge Trust, while Cambridge personal and business banking customers will transition to Eastern Bank. Under the terms of the agreement, most Cambridge Trust branch employees will remain in their current roles.

According to a press release issued by Eastern Bank, most branches across New England will remain open, with the exception of Cambridge Trust in Andover, Mass., Newton, Mass., and Bedford, N.H. These branches have Eastern Bank locations less than one mile away, so customers can still enjoy the convenience of local banking.

The release noted that most account numbers will also remain the same. Direct deposits and Social Security payments will automatically transition to customers’ new Eastern Bank accounts.

The respective routing numbers for Eastern Bank and Cambridge Trust will also remain the same. Personal banking and business customers who transitioned to Eastern Bank from Cambridge Trust accounts will need to know the correct routing number for Eastern Bank.

On a FAQ page, Eastern Bank indicated that Cambridge customers can use their existing checks until new ones are issued. Likewise, customers can continue to use their Cambridge Trust ATM or debit cards, or both, until they expire. At that point, a new card with Eastern Bank branding will be issued.

What Is a Routing Number?

A routing number is a nine-digit number that identifies a financial institution in a transaction. Every bank and credit union has a unique ABA routing number, issued by the American Bankers Association. Some larger national banks have multiple routing numbers, which are issued based on the location of the branches. For instance, Bank of America has dozens of routing numbers, with one for each state and as many as three in some larger states with many Bank of America branches.

Following a merger, a bank may retain the routing number from one of the involved institutions, or the institutions may keep both routing numbers.

In the case of the Eastern Bank-Cambridge merger, each financial institution retained its respective routing number.

Final Take

When banks merge, it can be confusing to understand what’s happening to your existing accounts. Knowing your routing number after the merger is one way to ensure your transactions are routed to the proper bank and accounts.
