Troubleshooting American Express Login Issues

If you encounter any problems while logging in, here’s how to resolve some of those issues.

  • Incorrect password: While logging in, select “Forgot User ID or Password?” and follow the prompts to reset the credentials.
  • Account locked: Reach out to customer service for assistance. You can call 800-446-6307, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You may need to do this if you’ve tried logging on several times with no success.
  • Security code not received: You may need to check your spam folder or ask for a new code to be delivered.

Sometimes it could be your browser causing issues with logging in. Try clearing your cache and cookies and check to make sure you’re using the latest version of your browser. If you’ve got extensions, you may need to disable them.

Logging in From a New Device or Location

If it’s your first time logging in to American Express or you’re using a new device, you may need to verify your identity before you can access your account. You may be sent a passcode via email or text to enter.

You can add your new device to your list of trusted devices. Select Security Preferences > Manage Trusted Devices to add your new device or delete any outdated ones.

Suspicious Login Alert

If you ever receive a suspicious login alert or notice your account has unauthorized transactions, immediately change your password. If you have any concerns, reach out to American Express customer service.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication for Added Security

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, adds another security measure before you can gain access to your account and prevents unauthorized users from logging in.

To set this up, log into your American Express account and go to “Security Settings” and then “Enable Two-Factor Authentication.”
