If you’re going to spend money, you might as well get rewarded for it. Consider applying for a no annual fee credit card with rewards to get cash or other rewards for your spending.

Some credit cards offer more rewards but charge a hefty annual fee. For example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card includes a $300 annual travel credit and triple points on travel and dining, but you pay $450 per year just to have the card. You can avoid paying a credit card annual fee by opting for a top no annual fee credit card that won’t charge you each year.

 Discover it Miles Credit Card

The Discover it Miles card offers 1.5 miles for every dollar you spend on the card, regardless of what you buy, with no limits on the rewards you can earn. New card members earn a special bonus — Discover will match all the miles you earn in the first year of using the card. Discover also offers extra identity theft security features like alerts when your Social Security number is found on suspicious websites or a new account shows up on your Experian credit report, plus you can freeze and unfreeze your card online or with your phone.

Discover it Cash Credit Card

The Discover it Cash card offers 5 percent cash back in categories that rotate every quarter, plus 1 percent cash back on all your other purchases. For example, one quarter you might earn 5 percent cash back at gas stations, and the next quarter you could earn the 5 percent cash back at grocery stores. As with the Discover it Miles card, Discover will match all your rewards earned in the first year of using your card. Plus, Discover won’t raise your APR if you pay late, and it waives the late fee for your first late payment.

Bank of America Travel Rewards

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card is the best travel credit card with no annual fee on the list, offering 1.5 points per dollar spent, plus 1.5 bonus points per dollar spent when you book through Bank of America’s Travel Center. The card goes the extra mile for Bank of America banking customers — consumer checking, savings and retirement account customers receive a 10 percent bonus on all points earned. You can use the points to receive cash back, gift cards or travel rewards. New customers who spend at least $1,000 in the first 90 days receive a 20,000-point bonus.

Capital One VentureOne

The Capital One VentureOne is another credit card without an annual fee, and it rewards users with 1.25 miles for every dollar spent, regardless of where you spend the money. The card also waives foreign transaction fees when you’re making purchases outside the United States. Plus, new customers who spend at least $1,000 in the first three months receive a 20,000-point bonus.

Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Card

The Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Card offers Wells Fargo’s lowest possible introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers. You’ll also receive 1.5 percent cash back on every purchase you make on your card, with no limits on how much you can earn. Those rewards never expire as long as the card stays open. And if you spend $1,000 in the first three months, you’ll be rewarded with a $200 cash reward bonus.

 Bank of America Cash Rewards

The Bank of America Cash Rewards card offers tiered cash-back rates for different categories: 3 percent on gas, 2 percent on grocery stores and 1 percent everywhere else. But the bonus cash back on gas and groceries is limited to the first $2,500 of gas and groceries purchased per quarter. Redeeming your cash back into a Bank of America account earns you a 10 percent bonus, and Bank of America Preferred Rewards clients can increase their bonuses to as much as 75 percent. Spend at least $500 on the card within 90 days of opening the account to receive a $150 bonus.

Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards

The Capital One Quicksilver Rewards card makes earning cash back very straightforward: You earn 1.5 percent on every purchase, everywhere. In addition, you won’t pay foreign transaction fees, and you can redeem your cash back rewards for any amount. The card also comes with standard Visa perks like extended warranties on certain purchases and emergency card replacement. Spend at least $500 on the card within 90 days of opening the account to receive a $150 bonus.

Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom card offers extra rewards in rotating categories like restaurants, home improvement stores and cable and internet. Your first $1,500 in purchases in that quarter’s categories earns 5 percent cash back, and all other purchases earn 1 percent cash back. Sign up now to earn two bonuses: a $150 bonus if you spend $500 on the card within the first three months, and a $25 bonus when you add an authorized user and they make their first purchase within three months of opening the card.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited Card offers very similar benefits to the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards card: 1.5 percent cash back on all your purchases. As long as you keep the account open, your rewards never expire. Plus you can earn the same two signup bonuses with the Chase Freedom card: $150 when you spend at least $500 on the card within the first three months, and $25 when you add an authorized user and they make their first purchase within the same time period.

Blue Cash Everyday from American Express

The Blue Cash Everyday card from American Express gives you 3 percent cash back on the first $6,000 each year that you spend at the grocery store. You’ll also earn 2 percent cash back at gas stations and certain department stores and 1 percent on all other purchases. The cash back is rewarded in the form of a statement credit, so you won’t be getting a check. Sign up now and spend $1,000 in the first three months to get a $150 statement credit.

American Express EveryDay Credit Card

The American Express EveryDay Credit Card gives you 2x points at grocery stores and 1x points everywhere else. Make at least 20 purchases in a billing period on your American Express EveryDay Credit Card for a 20 percent bonus on your rewards earned. You can use the points you earn for statement credits or gift cards, or you can transfer them to frequent flier programs.
